Tributes have poured in for a 25-year-old woman who died and whose sister and cousin were seriously injured after they were hit by a car in West Sussex.

Flowers have been laid in London Road outside the Crawley Leisure Park, where the three pedestrians - all local to the area - were struck by a grey BMW 3 Series just after 20:30 BST on Saturday, according to Sussex Police.

The woman's 12-year-old sister and their cousin, a 19-year-old woman, were taken to hospital.

Kate Fuller, who owns a nearby business, told the BBC the incident was "really, really saddening".

She added what happened had "hit home" because it was so close to where she works.

'Upsetting and shocking'

One tribute, accompanied by candles and laid in London Road, read: "Thinking of you all at this time. Wishing the girls a speedy recovery and may your girl rest in peace."

Another added: "Our deepest condolences to the family."

A 33-year-old man, from Crawley, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving while unfit through drugs.

Sussex Police said he had been released from custody on conditional bail until 13 July.

Duncan Crow, Crawley Borough councillor for Furnace Green, said the incident was "deeply upsetting and shocking".

He said his thoughts and prayers were with the victims and their family.

"Thank you to the emergency services who attended, who will have done everything they could at the scene," Mr Crow added.

Sussex Police have urged anyone who saw what happened or captured any relevant footage to contact them.

Their investigation continues.
