'Hero' runs marathon to honour saving man's life
Many people have a heart-warming motive for running a marathon, but Lee Nicholson decided to fundraise for a unique reason after he helped save the life of a fellow runner.
The 35-year-old, from Newbridge on Wye, was out on a run near Builth Wells last September when Darren Hughes collapsed from a cardiac arrest.
Mr Nicholson called 999 and performed life saving CPR on Mr Hughes for about 20 minutes before the paramedics arrived, followed by the Air Ambulance, which airlifted him to hospital.
The pair, who are part of the same run club, are now advocating for more people to do CPR training, and Mr Nicholson completed the London Marathon, raising £4,000 for Air Ambulances UK.
Speaking to BBC Radio Wales Breakfast, Mr Hughes said: "He's my hero like, and always will be".
