'I thought I was going to be a widow at 34'

Victoria Thomas recalls waiting in a hospital while 21 defibrillator shocks were administered to her husband Ryan, who suffered two heart attacks and a stroke.

Mr Thomas, a rugby coach, was rushed to hospital after falling ill during a gym training session.

"I went to get Ryan a drink of water in the waiting area and when I returned he was slumped in the chair and making a strange noise and unresponsive, so I screamed for help," said Mrs Thomas.

"I thought I was going to be a widow at 34."
