Eager beaver caught munching through tree

There's gnaw business like jaw business for this beaver caught nibbling his way through a tree.

The rogue rodent, thought to be male, was recorded at Park in the Past, a conservation site in Hope, Flintshire.

The unnamed animal is believed to have been living there for about three years.

How he got there is a mystery. There have been no beaver releases in the area though the River Alyn flows through the park, which contains a lake.

Park in the Past's Phil Hirst, believed the enigmatic mammal could be the first beaver in Wales not officially reintroduced.

"It demonstrates how effective and successful our rewilding programme actually is," he said.

But beavers have been found living wild in Wales before, after being first released in 2021.

A second beaver is suspected to have arrived as well, Mr Hirst said.

There are no plans to officially release beavers on the site.
