Students at a secondary school in Surrey have donated hundreds of Christmas presents to families in need.

More than 400 gifts were donated by Guildford High School pupils as part of its annual support of Guildford Borough Council's community hub, The Hive.

The school has donated more than 1,500 gifts since it began supporting the initiative in 2021.

Carla Morson, lead councillor for community and organisational development, said: "Thanks to the generosity of Guildford High School students, we're able to bring joy to children and families who need it most this festive season.

"Through the strength of community and the impact of giving, we hope to continue spreading some Christmas cheer in years to come."

The presents are given to families that are supporting by the community wellbeing team or who were referred by home link workers or partner organisations, the council said.

Jenni Hall, of Guildford High School, said: "We are committed to supporting local community initiatives, and this has very much become part of Christmas at Guildford High School."
