Three men have been sentenced after an unprovoked attack left one of their victims with fractured eye sockets and lacerations to the head.

Bruno Cerquijcini, Dumitru Costache, and Robert Cojocario, launched their attack outside a shop on Eastfield Road in Peterborough last year.

Two male victims were taken to hospital in the early hours of 24 July 2024 before the attackers were arrested by armed officers.

The three men were sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday 2 July, with Cerquijcini, 46, receiving 18 months in prison, suspended for two years.

'Violent attack'

A man, 46, was with a woman and a 42-year-old man, who was the first to be attacked.

The man was punched in the face by Costache, 41, and pushed to the ground, unconscious, by Cojocario, 47.

Police said Costache then punched him on the ground and Cerquijcini hit him in the head with an axe.

Cojocario, and Costache, were jailed after admitting grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Costache was jailed for three years and ten months and Cojocario was jailed for 10 months.

Cerquijcini admitted to having an axe and inflicting GBH without intent.

Det Con Lauren Easton, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "This was a completely unprovoked and violent attack which had a significant impact on the victims, short term and long term."
