A man has been arrested after thousands of pounds of criminal damage was reportedly caused to storefronts of businesses in Maidstone with a fire extinguisher.

Kent Police said they were called at 19:44 BST on Sunday to a break-in at Sainsbury's in Romney Place.

Reports of further damage were also received relating to commercial premises in King Street, said police.

Officers said they arrested a 23-year-old man after a foot pursuit.

Kent Police said a fire extinguisher was thrown at apprehending officers and caused damage to a police vehicle.
