PC appears in court on child sex offence charges
A West Yorkshire Police officer has appeared in court charged with historical child sex offences.
PC Marcus Newbold, 29, faces eight charges, including raping a girl under 13, assault by penetration, four counts of assault by touching and two of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
The charges all relate to one alleged victim and are said to have taken place between 2007 and 2011.
Mr Newbold, of Lime Close, Normanton, did not enter any pleas at Leeds Magistrates Court, though his legal representative indicated he denied the offences.
Mr Newbold, who was based in Kirklees District, was suspended from duty after the allegations were first made to police in 2022.
Following the hearing he was bailed ahead of his next appearance at Leeds Crown Court on 31 January.
