Charities in Guernsey are asking the island's government for more support and closer collaboration.

The Association of Guernsey Charities (AGC), which represents about half the island's charities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), launched its manifesto on Tuesday ahead of the general election in June.

It set out four requests for future deputies, including strengthening the sector financially, recognising its contribution and enhancing volunteering.

Wayne Bulpitt, AGC chairman, said: "Our community is facing complex challenges that cannot be solved by the government alone."

Mr Bulpitt said he wanted future deputies to "understand the real impact of the charity sector, explore its diversity and unique strengths".

The manifesto's four requests are:

  • Effective commissioning to become a strategic goal, establishing strong, collaborative partnerships
  • Recognise the charitable sector's economic and social value
  • Strengthen financial sustainability
  • Enhance the value and impact of volunteering
