General waste in Bradford will be collected after weather delays

Bradford Council has released updated advice as it works to collect residents' bins after cold weather delayed its runs.

Freezing temperatures, snow and ice meant refuse bins were not emptied last week across the district.

The council had previously said it would collect bins "when safe to do so".

On Monday the new guidance was that general waste would be collected this week, but not recycling.

The refuse teams will also accept bagged rubbish left at the side of a bin. Recycling will be collected in the coming weeks.

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: "The thaw has taken longer than expected, so we are now asking that people leave out their general waste bin for this week.

"We ask that people don't leave out their recycling bins - these will be emptied on the relevant collection day next week or the week after.

"Any bagged side general waste can be put next to your bin in tied bags when general waste bins are being emptied, and bagged recycling on recycling collection days.

"Excess general waste and recycling can be taken to Household Waste Recycling Centres.

"All HWRCs will have their usual opening hours, except Bowling Back Lane and Keighley's Royd Ings Avenue, which will both open from 09:00 GMT to 19:00 GMT Monday to Friday to allow extra time for anyone wanting to drop off excess waste or recycling."
