Man seriously hurt after being knocked down
A man has been seriously injured after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said a man in his 40s was crossing Westleigh Lane in Leigh, near the Go Local Extra Post Office, at about 10:30 GMT on Monday when he was hit by a black Ford Fiesta.
He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
Police said the driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was arrested and then later released under investigation.
A GMP spokesman said: "We are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to make contact with us.
"We are particularly keen to speak with the driver and/or occupants of a white Renault Kangoo van that stopped at the pedestrian crossing on the opposite carriageway."
Officers have asked for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident to contact them, saying "it may be crucial to our inquiries".
