Jayden O'Donnell's reckless behaviour was captured on police bodycam footage

A dangerous driver who tried to ram a police car during a chase and then sped away at 100mph (160.9kmh) before he was later caught hiding under a bed has been jailed.

Jayden O'Donnell fled from patrol cars in Moston, Manchester, on 26 October, driving at speed the wrong way around a roundabout and twice trying to reverse back into his police pursuers.

The 23-year-old then jumped out of the vehicle and was chased by officers into a nearby home, where he was discovered hiding under a bed and arrested.

O'Donnell, from Salford, admitted offences including dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and possession of a bladed weapon and was jailed for 18 months.

Footage of the chase has been released by Greater Manchester Police, which described his attempt to ram officers as a "disgusting attack".

O'Donnell drove 100mph in a 30mph zone to escape the police

Police first spotted O'Donnell leaving a pub in a grey Mazda on Moston Lane at about 22:50 BST.

Manchester Crown Court heard he noticed the police and accelerated away at 60mph, evading one patrol car before another took up the pursuit.

During the chase he hit 100mph in a 30mph zone, driving "recklessly" and overtaking cars on the wrong side of the road, a the force said.

He tried to twice reverse his car into pursuing police, who were unharmed, before trying to make off on foot up an alleyway.

Sprinting close behind, officers later found him hiding under a bed at a home on Styhead Driver and he was arrested.

Insp Dan Pickavance said his actions "put road users' lives at risk with his reckless driving and things could have been much worse".

He said "All those involved from the pursuit to those who arrested him behaved professionally and brilliantly and I am glad their work has got O'Donnell off the streets."
