The site of a former grammar school could be transformed into student accommodation if plans are approved.

Hull City Council has received a planning application to turn Hull Grammar School, on Cottingham Road, into living spaces for up to 37 students.

The application stated that any alterations made to the building would "reflect the materials and scale, character and appearance of the host buildings, whilst bringing them into efficient and viable use securing its improvement and continued maintenance".

The council was now set to make a decision on the proposals.

The site, which is about 0.3 miles (0.5km) from the University of Hull campus, could be accessed through a private road owned by the Diocese of Middlesbrough.

However, a right of access was in place for the site, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The application added that the plans would not have a "negligible impact on the street scene beyond the site, and where it can be seen, it will not have a detrimental impact on amenity".

As well as accommodation, there were also plans to create office space.

Car parking would also be provided, although it was hoped the close proximity to the university and the abundance of public transport services would minimise the need to travel by car.
