Parklets to be removed from Hull city centre
Outdoor seating known as parklets are to be removed from Hull city centre, the council has said.
Six of the structures were placed in Princes Dock Street, opposite Princes Quay Shopping Centre, in August 2023, in an effort by the council to attract more customers to pubs and restaurants.
However, the authority confirmed they would be removed from Monday ahead of planned improvement works, having previously stated they were installed "on a trial basis".
New outdoor dining spaces will replace the seating, with trees planted and footpaths resurfaced.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said: "As we prepare the area for contractors, we are ensuring a smooth transition into the next phase of this project, which will bring exciting improvements to Princes Dock Street and create vibrant outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy."
Council documents also stated local firm Pearlgreen Engineering Limited was awarded a £100,000 contract to make and install them.
The council said the parklets would be put into storage, with new locations for them yet to be finalised.
