Plan to reopen La Pulente toilets 'by summer'

A Jersey politician plans to take the "action that is necessary" to make sure the public toilets at La Pulente are reopened in time for summer.

The toilets have been closed since 2023 after the owners of the building closed the restaurant on the site.

Constable Andy Jehan said the property owners were not "fulfilling their obligation" to keep them open.

He said discussions were ongoing to negotiate access to the toilets and ensure that they are "operated in accordance with the planning obligation".

He added: "It is our intention to take the action that is necessary to ensure the toilets are open for the summer."

In 2024 the owners of the site applied to change its use from a restaurant to a small cafe next to a self-catering flat but the application was refused.

They again submitted planning permission to change the use of the site in January, this time to accommodation.

The States of Jersey have not yet made a decision on the latest planning application.
