Roadwork signs could soon be replaced after complaints the guidance is confusing.

Essential highway maintenance is taking place across St John's Village from 5 April to 13 April, a Government of Jersey spokesperson said. Throughout the works, some routes will be closed for 24 hours and several roads will have temporary one-way systems in place.

One business owner said the signage for the works was "not clear enough", leading to a 20% drop in his trade.

Constable Andy Jehan, Minister for Infrastructure, said his team would review the signs and add new guidance for motorists.

Pavel Zygiewicz, from the Dough Rye Me bakery, said a road closure has made it difficult to travel to his business.

"We had a slightly quieter day today... I'd say we lost 20% of business.

"We are looking forward to the new signage on the road. We're told there will be clear directions how to get into the centre so hopefully tomorrow we'll be back in business," he said.

Meanwhile, resident Martin Whitley was supportive of the roadworks taking place.

"Our roads needed doing," he said.

"We needed zebra crossings. We are getting good tarmac down so I am positive about it."

The following roads will be impacted during the works:

  • Route du Nord
  • Route de St Jean
  • La Rue de la Mare Ballam
  • La Rue du Parcq Melbourne
  • Route des Issues
