A woman from Tokyo has flown to Cornwall to compete in the first-ever World's Fastest Crimper competition for amateurs.

Yuriko Shigyo arrived in Truro on Friday afternoon and said she hoped her entry would encourage "further exchanges" between the UK and Japan.

The event will be held in Truro at the Great Cornish Food Store from 10:00 GMT on Saturday.

Ms Shigyo and her fellow entrants will be tasked with crimping three pasties against the clock, which will then be judged to determine the winner.

Discussing the event, she said: "I want to tell the world that there is a lot of delicious food in the UK."

Ahead of the competition, Ms Shigyo was given a tour of the gardens at tea manufacturer Tregothnan in Tresillian.
