Trump win is the more complicated outcome for UK government

Keir Starmer has congratulated Donald Trump on what he calls a "historic election victory".

In a statement, the UK's prime minister said he looked forward to working with Trump in the years ahead, adding: "As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise."

He also said he hoped the UK-US special relationship would continue to prosper.

The BBC's political editor Chris Mason explains that while this is the "more complicated outcome", Westminster have been preparing for a second Trump presidency.
