Cockneys reviewing first EastEnders in 1985: 'Show lacks humour'
On the 19 February 1985, 13 million viewers settled down in front of their televisions to watch the BBC's bold venture into the world of soap opera.
EastEnders, which began as a twice-weekly programme, based its fictional community on people living in the East End of London.
Nowhere could it be more scrutinized than a pub on the Isle of Dogs where the BBC's Breakfast Time went to gauge what locals thought of the make-believe world of Albert Square.
