Blondie's Clem Burke played crucial role in drumming study
Clem Burke, the drummer for 1970s band Blondie, has died aged 70 following a "private battle with cancer", the band's spokesperson has confirmed.
In 2008, the famous musician took part in a "ground-breaking" Gloucestershire University study into the physical and psychological effects of drumming.
This led to the establishment of the Clem Burke Drumming Project, which discovered that drummers could reach the same physical exertion as professional athletes.
For his efforts, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Gloucestershire.
