Night vision camera captures beaver breaking wind

A beaver has been caught on camera “breaking wind” at a wildlife centre in Cornwall.

Lauren Jasper, beaver officer at the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, suggested the animal could have been attempting to mark its territory at Helman Tor Nature Reserve.

Camera traps have been set up at sites across the county by the trust in to track the activity of the beavers.

"What did stand out to us was the beaver breaking wind, which gave us all a good laugh but there is a really good reason. Beavers have a gland near their tail that can secrete an oil called castoreum which actually helps them mark their territory," she said.
