'My XL bully was days away from being put to sleep'
Lainya Craig, 28, rescued her XL bully Smokey just as the ban on the dog breed came into effect last year.
"There are misconceptions that these dogs are dangerous, and some of them are, but not all XL bullies are a risk to society," Ms Craig, who lives in Wallsend, North Tyneside, explained.
Smokey is a legally kept XL bully, meaning he is registered, insured, and must wear a muzzle at all times when outdoors - conditions which became law in England and Wales in February 2024 and now applies to the whole of the UK.
