Watch: I will work with Trump for low whisky tarriffs - Swinney

John Swinney wants to capitalise on Donald Trump's Scottish connection in an attempt to avoid tariffs being applied on imports to the US, he has told BBC's The Sunday Show.

The first minister confirmed he had highlighted the importance of trade between the countries, especially Scotch whisky, in a call with the US president-elect last month.

Trump, whose mother was from Lewis, expressed 'enthuisiasm' for Scotland and 'pride' in his business interests in the country, Swinney said.

Trump has frequently promised to impose tarriffs on all imports to the US after he is inaugurated on 20 January.
