A car and a dessert parlour have been left riddled with bullet holes after a double shooting in Sheffield.

The first incident saw at least five bullets fired at the window of Sugar Xpress, in Firth Park Road, Firth Park, at about 20:00 GMT on Thursday.

About 13 minutes later, a VW Passat was attacked in Machon Bank, Nether Edge, with photos from the scene showing eight bullet holes in the windscreen.

South Yorkshire Police said it is believed the incidents are linked.

Cordons have been put in place at both locations and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to get in touch.

Det Ch Insp Anthony Slater said: "We understand that these two incidents last night will have caused some concern in the community and would like to reassure those nearby that we believe it to have been targeted and we're doing all we can to find those responsible.

"Thankfully, no one was injured in what was a reckless act and we're dedicated to finding who may have been responsible.

"A huge amount of lines of enquiry have already been followed up and we're now appealing for anyone who may have any information - no matter how small it may seem - to get in touch."
