The crash involving a lorry and several other vehicles happened on the M271 towards Southampton

A man has died in a multi-vehicle crash on the M271 in Southampton.

The crash, which closed the southbound carriageway from the M27 to the A35 at Redbridge, happened at about 08:30 GMT.

It involved a heavy goods vehicle, Nissan Navara pick-up truck, Mercedes Vito van and Renault Relay van. The man, in his 60s, died at the scene.

Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Highways England said delays were experienced on the M27 between junction 3, for Nursling, and junction 2, for Ower.

The motorway reopened at about 15:20.
