Part of the A14 heading westbound is expected to be closed for "some time" following a collision.

Emergency services were at the scene on the westbound carriageway between junction 21 at Brampton and junction 18 at Spaldwick just before 16:30 GMT.

Police, paramedics and firefighters attended the scene after two cars collided.

Motorists within the closure will be assisted by police as soon as possible, said National Highways.

A spokesperson for National Highways has asked drivers to be "patient" as "their priority is dealing with the incident first and foremost".

"Cambridgeshire Police, Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue and East of England Ambulance Service have units in attendance."

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Highways East said due to a "serious collision" the road would be closed for "some time".

National Highways said emergency services and National Highways traffic officers remain at the scene.

They have encouraged drivers to follow local road signs marked with a hollow symbol and exit the A14 at Brampton Hut before taking an exit to the A1 northbound.

National Highways said traffic from the A14 westbound can instead merge on to the A1 northbound at junction 22 of the A14.
