Funding fixes more than 16,000 potholes in Hertfordshire
BBCMore than 16,000 extra potholes have been repaired in recent months across Hertfordshire roads.
Lower priority potholes, in addition to the more serious potholes, have been repaired as a result.
The county council has benefitted from an increased £3.95m from a national Potholes Fund.
Typically, the council repairs 20,000 potholes annually, which it expected to double by the end of the year to fill 40,000.
Chrissy Jacques, head of highways, said roads had faced "really challenging conditions" during the winter.
A council meeting was told roads suffered "exceptional damage" caused by both snow and ice, as well as heavy rainfall.
