A man has been charged in connection with vandalism to two memorials in Leeds for police officers who died in the line of duty.

On Saturday, black paint was sprayed on the memorial to PC Ian Broadhurst, who was shot and killed on Dib Lane in 2003, and the following day the memorial to Sgt John Speed, who died in a shooting in the city centre in 1984, was also defaced.

Jonathan Enoch, 56, of Ryedale Court, Seacroft, has been charged with two counts of intentionally causing a public nuisance.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
