Grassroots gigs could be increased at music event

Grassroots performance slots could be increased at a music event in Plymouth next year.

Plymouth Summer Sessions 2025, run by the firm Live Nation, will take place on the Hoe from 12 to 15 June with headliners including James, Pendulum, Snow Patrol and The Corrs.

Plymouth city councillors said it was important the city's "rich music scene" was celebrated.

Councillor Lauren McLay said: "It's really important, because we have such a rich music season here and it is good to know it's going to be celebrated."

Speaking to the natural infrastructure and growth scrutiny panel, Hannah Harris, of Plymouth Culture, and David Draffan, the council's service director for economic development, said they shared the desire of having more grassroots music as well as the big names at the shows.

Council officers were set to discuss the number of local artists taking part in the event in January and what free tickets might be available, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

"We are going to talk to the Live Nation team about our aspirations to see if we can push that further and get more opportunity," Mr Draffan said.
