School warns pupils over fake Snapchat profiles

Pupils at a secondary school have been warned after some of them were sent indecent images by adult men posing as their classmates on social media.

Bradford Forster Academy sent a letter to parents urging them to be on their guard because fake Snapchat accounts had been used to send inappropriate material.

The letter seen by the BBC, from safeguarding lead Andy Russell, said anyone affected by the issue should report it.

West Yorkshire Police and Snapchat have been contacted for comment.

The school said: "As part of our safeguarding efforts, we strongly advise of parents/carers to be vigilant in monitoring their child's online activity, particularly on social media platforms such as Snapchat.

"It is important to ensure that accounts are secure and any suspicious activity is reported immediately."

Bradford Forster Academy is a secondary school for children aged 11-16. It currently has just over 1,000 pupils.
