Man arrested over alleged child abduction

A man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnap and sexual assault after an alleged abduction of a child in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said the incident happened in the Winson Green area on Sunday.

"It is understood the child was found at an address where members of the community assisted in detaining a man," a West Midlands Police spokesperson said.

The man, who is in his 30s, has also been arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis and remains in custody for questioning.

The girl and her family are being supported by specialist officers.

Supt Emlyn Richards from Birmingham police said: "Currently we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

"However, we are keen to hear from anybody that may have witnessed this incident or who has information."

The West Midlands force said it had extra officers in the area to reassure the community and urged people to speak to police about any concerns.
