Man injured after crash and fire in road tunnel

A man has been injured after a car caught fire after a crash in a road tunnel in east Kent, police have said.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Royal Approach Road in Ramsgate just before 20:00 BST on Friday.

Two fire engines attended and crews used compressed air foam systems to extinguish the flames.

The fire service said one person was passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Police confirmed a man was taken to hospital and said he "did not have serious injuries".

Kent Police said the fire caused damage to a junction box in the tunnel, leading to a loss of power.

The force said two other people had been in the car.

The cause of the single-vehicle crash is unknown.
