People across the West Midlands celebrated the new year by taking in a stunning display of the Northern Lights.

The bright colours of the aurora were visible across the UK after a strong solar storm.

BBC Weather Watchers captured their view across Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.

The lights could be viewed again at the weekend as the Met Office Space Weather Centre forecasts another eruption of charged particles which are expected to reach Earth.
