A former nursery worker from East Sussex has been jailed after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting young children.

Andrew Evans, 38, worked at a nursery in Crowborough for less than six months and was subsequently charged with two counts of penetration of a girl under 13, one count of assault by touching of a girl under 13, and one count of assault by penetration of a boy under 13.

Evans, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to all the charges and on Wednesday at Hove Crown Court was sentenced to 14 years and four months in prison, with an additional four years and eight months to be spent on extended licence.

Det Con Rebecca Wilde said Evans betrayed the trust of his young victims, their families and the nursery that employed him "in the most appalling ways".

Sussex Police said the force had received a report from the family of a three-year-old boy who said he had been sexually assaulted by "Andy" at nursery.

Four months later, a three-year-old girl made separate allegations of sexual assault against Evans, according to police.
