The shots were fired at a home on Leyfield Road in West Derby

An investigation has begun after reports of a man firing a gun through the front door of a home in Liverpool.

Merseyside Police said the house on Leyfield Road in West Derby was occupied but no one was hurt in the incident at about 20:10 BST on Monday.

The force said detectives were trying to track down a man wearing a balaclava and dark clothing, seen riding at Sur-Ron bike, who they suspect had fired at the home.

A police spokesman said the "reckless act" could have had fatal consequences.

Several roads in the area were closed as police carried out inquiries into what happened.

Det Insp Chris Saidi said the occupier of the home had been left "badly shaken" by the incident, but nobody was injured.

He said: "This is not acceptable behaviour and we will do everything within our powers to find who the person is and bring him to justice."

The force has urged anyone with information or CCTV and doorbell footage of the shooting to get in touch.

Officers have also asked taxi and delivery drivers who were in the area of Leyfield Road at the time to get in touch if they have any information about the suspect.
