A man has been arrested after a pedestrian died when he was hit by a vehicle in the early hours of Sunday.

Northamptonshire Police said the incident happened at 01:55 GMT on the A4500 in Earls Barton.

A black Ford pickup hit the pedestrian close to the junction with Wellingborough Road, the force said.

The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, died at the scene, while a 60-year-old Wellingborough man has been arrested.

Police said he was arrested for driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit and causing death by driving without due care or consideration while over specified limit.

He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Officers appealed for any witnesses, or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact them.
