Rail passengers are facing disruption to services between Wolverhampton and Stafford after overhead wires were damaged.

National Rail (NR) said the lines were closed but a limited number of trains would run between the stations whilst repairs were carried out.

Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and Northwestern Railway services could be cancelled, delayed or diverted until the end of the day.

Meanwhile, a shortage of train crew has led to a reduced West Midlands Railway service between Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury with passengers possibly facing cancellations, NR said.

Disruption was expected until the end of the day and passengers are being advised to check before they travel.

Replacement road transport is running between Wolverhampton and Stafford to help passengers affected by the damage to the overhead electric wires at Penkridge, NR said.

Hourly services will run from both stations.
