Furbys, Power Ranger action figures, Pokemon and Spice Girls dolls - all these nostalgic toys are among the many going on display as part of a new exhibition celebrating the 1990s.

I Grew Up 90s is taking place at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum from Saturday until 7 September.

Museums Worcestershire said it included more than 200 "wonderfully preserved" objects from the decade, from toys to technology, sport, fashion, books and film.

Collector and exhibition curator, Matt Fox, said the 90s was the decade of "Girl Power and Cool Britannia, of the internet and innovation, and it belonged to the young".

Visitors to the exhibition can also dress up in 90s fashions and play arcade machine games including Sonic the Hedgehog, a museum spokesperson said.

Mr Fox said the decade was described as the one where "history took a holiday" and arts and culture were "flourishing".

"Those of us who grew up during those peaceful years may not have realised how fortunate we were, but with today's hindsight we recognise the 90s as a golden age for UK youth," he said.

Robotic talking toy Furby, known for its bulbous eyes and yellow beak, was originally launched in 1998 and quickly became popular around the world, with more than 40 million of them sold within their first three years on sale.

Other items making up the exhibition include the likes of Beanie Babies, Polly Pocket, Lara Croft and books and artworks from famous films including The Lion King.

Tamagotchi, an egg-shaped toy where players have to look after a virtual pet, will also be on display.

The exhibition is open from 10:00 to 16:00 BST from Tuesday to Saturday, and 10:00 to 15:00 BST on Sunday, with the last entry allowed an hour before closing time, Museums Worcestershire said.

Tickets to the event can be booked on their website.
