A man has been found guilty of attempted murder after stabbing a man in the neck.

Kubilay Bostanli, 27, of Anzio Road, Devizes, chased his victim, a man in his 20s, through Devizes town centre at about 12:30 BST on 29 June, before assaulting him and stabbing him in the neck.

He was found guilty following a trial at Winchester Crown Court on Monday.

DC Jo Newbery from Wiltshire Police said the victim "fought for his life" during the "sustained and terrifying attack".

'Lucky to still be here'

"Kubilay Bostanli used extreme violence against his victim, which was witnessed by a large number of people given the time of day and location of the assault," she said.

Wiltshire Police said Bostanli was seen chasing his victim near Sidmouth Street, before physically assaulting him inside a nearby butcher's and eventually running to Estcourt Street.

After police arrived, Bostanli later assaulted the officer who was trying to detain him by pulling her around by the hair.

DC Newbery also thanked the victim, who also sustained facial and ear injuries in the attack and is "lucky to still be here", for his bravery in working with the police and three members of the public who provided first aid.

Bostanli, who was also found guilty of assaulting an emergency worker, is due to be sentenced on 4 April.
