Dolphin sighting reflects 'population increase'

WATCH: A pod of dolphins are spotted in Manx waters highlighting an increase in the population

A sighting of a pod of dolphins off the Isle of Man's east coast reflects the rise in the number of species found in Manx waters, a conservation charity has said.

Tom Morgan filmed the surprising encounter from the vessel Barrule off the coast of Laxey.

The Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch said it was unusual to find the short-beaked common dolphin in this area, "typically seen further offshore on our west coast".

A spokeswoman said encounters like this one have been "on the up" since 2020.

She said: "These recent sightings reflect the increase in population and seasonality for this species."
