William Carey has been described as a "cherished friend" by his family

A 51-year-old hospital worker killed in a crash was "deeply loved by many", his family have said.

William Carey, of Kirkbride, Cumbria, died when his motorcycle crashed with a car on the B5307, near Fingland on Friday, Cumbria Police said.

Mr Carey worked at Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary and was a dad-of-two.

In a tribute to him, his family said he was a "cherished friend".

They said: "Will was a devoted husband to Caroline, a dearly loved dad to Holly and Robert, a much-loved son of Peter and Susan and an adored brother of Daniel and the late Ben.

"He was a cherished friend and colleague at Carlisle's hospital.

"We are utterly devastated by his loss, but take comfort in knowing how deeply loved he was, by so many.

"We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who helped him at the time of the accident."
