A 56-year-old man has been arrested by police who discovered ammunition at a property.

The items were found at about 20:00 BST on Saturday in Derby Avenue, Middlesbrough, by officers from Cleveland Police acting on a call.

The force said a "small number of residents" were asked to leave their homes as the team worked with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to identify the ammunition discovered at the property and safely remove it.

It said the evacuation was a "precaution" and the man remains in custody for questioning.

Officers asked anyone with information to contact them.
