Ashfield Park Primary school will be extended and remodelled, the council said

A primary school in Ross-on-Wye is to get a major revamp after £663,000 was secured for the project.

Planning permission to remodel and extend parts of Ashfield Park Primary School was granted a year and a half ago, and funding has now been confirmed.

The school is to have new offices and a meeting room, while former office space will be adapted into a hygiene and physiotherapy facility for children with additional needs.

A single-storey extension will enable visitors and parents to access the school without having to cross the playground while children are playing, Herefordshire Council said.

The money has come from companies behind two housing developments near the A40.

Under so-called section 106 agreements, developers of larger schemes must fund local infrastructure as part of the conditions of their planning approval.

Work on the primary school was put out to tender, with S C Joseph Ltd of Hereford selected to carry out the improvements.

It is expected that the work will be carried out between March and August this year.

Meanwhile, the council has also approved spending of £165,414 from its own funds to repair the roof at Much Birch Church of England Primary School, between Ross and Hereford.

The scheme includes replacing roof lights, windows and external render, installing a new drain and replacing an asbestos-coated ceiling with a new suspended ceiling with LED lighting.
