A further two schools in East Yorkshire have been given council accreditation for promoting the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council launched its Healthy School awards in October following a pilot project.

North Frodingham and Beeford primary schools have now both been awarded the accolade after Springhead Primary in Anlaby was given it last year.

The award demonstrates a school's commitment across a range of areas, including healthy eating, exercise and mental health.

Mel Wilson, safeguarding lead for both schools, which are part of a federation, said: "It's important for our pupils to enjoy taking part in a range of healthy initiatives that we've adopted.

"Pupils benefit from things such as outdoor learning, a range of school clubs including golf, football, archery and dance, meaning they can try different activities.

"They also have the chance to take part in school games and to compete against other schools in events like cross country, dodgeball and tag rugby."

She added the schools were also taking part in a farm to fork initiative to learn about where their food comes from, along with anti-bullying workshops and support for mental health and wellbeing.

Beeford Primary School has also been praised for its work to promote health and wellbeing

Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education, said: "The healthy school award helps improve health and wellbeing among children, and in turn helps improve school attendance, behaviour, and attainment.

"The activities schools are involved in will also importantly instil positive health behaviours in children from a young age, which will help them live healthy, happy lives and prevent future illness and disease," she added.
