An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries

A man has been arrested after an 18-year-old man was stabbed in the head at Glenavon Football Club in Lurgan, County Armagh.

Police received a report of a stabbing in the grounds of Mourneview Park just after midnight on Sunday.

The man was taken to hospital for serious head injuries following the attack and an 18-year-old man has been arrested.

Det Sgt Stewart appealed for information, and said: "We know there were a lot of people in the club around the time of the incident so are asking for anyone who might have information that could help us."

'Very serious'

Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) MP Carla Lockhart described it as "a terrible ordeal which could have ended with a very different outcome".

"This is a very serious incident," she added.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the young man who sustained the injuries."
