Overnight closures to begin on A350 at Chippenham

Overnight closures will be starting on a major road for 10 days from 18 June between 20:00 BST and 06:00 BST.

The A350 at Chippenham, Wiltshire - which acts as a bypass for the town - is undergoing lots of work with the eventual aim of dualling the road as it goes past the town.

The government is funding £26.6m of the £32.3m cost, with the A350 being part of a primary freight route to the south coast.

Contractors MJ Church have already started lane closures during peak hours at the busy Bumpers Farm roundabout.

They have said diversion routes will be clearly signposted when the overnight closures are in place.

Drivers have been advised to plan ahead and give themselves extra time.

MJ Church has explained that the closures are to install narrower lanes to their workforce can be safe during construction.

Motorists will already have noticed temporary speed limit signs up as well as numerous orange cones as the site has been set up and trial holes dig to check what utilities are under the ground.

Wiltshire Council has explained that these stages of the project - four and five - are expected to be finished towards the end of 2026.

The council has said benefits will include quicker journeys, deter people using smaller roads and it should also reduce collisions.

The Department for Transport said, once completed, the changes will shave up to 25% off journey times, reducing air pollution and improving safety.
