Revised plans to convert a former school site in Grantham into a 60-home development have been approved.

South Kesteven District Council's planning committee rejected an initial application from Invicta Developments Limited in August 2023.

It has now approved an updated proposal to demolish the former school on Station Road East and build 54 apartments across three three-storey blocks.

The Old School House would be converted into an additional six apartments over two floors. There would also be communal gardens, cycle storage and 20 parking bays.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Adam Partington, speaking on behalf of Invicta Developments, told the council planning meeting the developer had worked closely with officers to reshape the proposal that was originally refused.

He said the development would "bring a lasting improvement to the area" and would "preserve a meaningful legacy" of the school that closed in the late 1970s before later becoming an indoor market and antiques centre.

Councillor Tim Harrison said he had "grave reservations" about the plans and felt there was not enough parking and residents would end up parking on the road.

Councillor Charmaine Morgan said the development would be ideal for young commuters due to its close proximity to Grantham Railway Station.

She said it would be a "step forward for the area".

Councillor Paul Wood said, although he was underwhelmed by the overall design, it was an improvement on the previous submission. Councillor Paul Fellows agreed.

The plans were approved, with two councillors voting against.
