Police hunting rapist confirm 'further sightings'

Police searching for a convicted rapist who absconded from prison have confirmed further sightings in Sheffield.

Neil Trennan, 60, was given day release from North Sea Camp, an open prison in Boston, Lincolnshire, on Thursday, but did not return to his meeting point.

On Saturday, South Yorkshire Police said there had been "confirmed sightings of Trennan in Sheffield and he is believed to have committed further offences in the area".

The force said it was thought he was last seen at Sheffield train station, where he is understood to have boarded the 16:38 BST train to Lincoln.

The South Yorkshire force said it was working alongside Lincolnshire Police and carrying out a number of inquiries.

Det Insp Dave Penney, from Lincolnshire Police, said Trennan was a "dangerous individual" who "may pose a real danger to members of the public".

Police said he was last seen wearing a black jumper and grey bottoms but may have changed clothing.

Trennan should not be approached and people are urged to call 999 immediately if they see him, police added.
