Three charged with murder bid over shop shooting
Three men have appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a man was shot in a shop in Glasgow.
Gary Rooney, 32, Darren Beaton, 35, and Stephen Preston, 20, are said to have carried out the attack on Javaid Akhtar at the store in Drumoyne Road, Govan, on 25 October.
Court papers said the trio, while acting together, “repeatedly discharged a firearm” at Mr Akthar to his severe injury and danger of life.
The men made no plea to the charge and were remanded in custody until their next court appearance.
During a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court, the men were also charged with intending to defeat the ends of justice by setting fire to a Ford Fiesta near Edinbaret Nursing Home in Clydebank.
Mr Akhtar was taken to hospital as a result of the attack and his condition was described as stable.
Rooney, of Clydebank, and Beaton and Preston, of Drumchapel, were committed for further examination by Sheriff Patrick Hughes.
They will appear in court again within the next eight days.
