Two people have been injured in an alleged explosion caused by an underground power surge in Surrey.

Emergency services were called to reports of an explosion in Cranbourne Close, in Horley, at about 22:15 BST on Tuesday.

One person was taken to hospital for treatment for second degree burns, while paramedics treated another person at the scene.

UK Power Networks said it was working to restore power to a number of homes in the area after a power cut caused by the surge.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed it was called to reports of an explosion.

"Crews assessed and treated two patients at the scene. One patient was then taken to a local hospital for further medical treatment and the second patient was discharged at the scene," they said.
